Inquests into deaths of LGBT+ people

LGBT+ Inquest Representation

Inquests into deaths of LGBT+ people need to be handled with great care and sensitivity. The unique experiences of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer+ people, are often very different from the experiences of those who identify as heterosexual or cisgender.

There is the impact of societal and institutional homophobia, that can lead to violent or unnatural deaths being insufficiently investigated. Or crimes might be committed against LGBT+ people as a consequence of their personal identity.

Even where deaths have arisen in situations that are unrelated to the deceased person’s sexuality, interested persons may prfer to be represented by people who are understanding of and sensitive to the needs of the those being represented.

At Inquest Representation Service, we can offer advice and representation to LGBT+ people, surviving partners or spouses, and their families and friends, who are seeking assistance with an inquest, whatever their sexuality of gender.
